The Kronenwetter community is mourning the passing of Dave Svetlik, who left this world on May 8, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on September 21, 1947, Dave grew up in Neillsville, Wisconsin, with five siblings, where he developed a love for fishing on the Black River—a passion he later shared with his children. His life was marked by devotion to family, generosity of spirit, and a deep appreciation for nature and community.
Dave met the love of his life, Cheryl, and they married on January 5, 1980. Together, they built a home in Kronenwetter, where they raised their children and shared 46 years of marriage. Their family grew to include John and Paul, followed by grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, all of whom Dave cherished deeply. He was a proud “Grampy,” always present for milestones, games, and simple everyday joys, especially his weekly lunches with his granddaughter Katie.
A man of many talents, Dave could fix or build anything and delighted in sharing that knowledge with family, students, and anyone who needed his help. He owned his own heating and cooling business before joining Northcentral Technical College, where he taught electromechanics for nearly twenty years. Former students often recognized him in the community, grateful for his guidance and mentorship. His legacy as a teacher and mentor lives on in the careers and lives he helped shape.
Dave’s passions extended beyond work. He loved sailing with Cheryl and their children around the Door County Peninsula, road‑tripping to National Parks, and fishing trips to Canada with his son and grandson. He spent countless hours in his woodshop with Paul, building boats and fine furniture, and maintained trails at the cabin he built with his own hands. In retirement, he found joy in “bumming” with Cheryl, especially bird‑watching at the Mead Wildlife Area, where he marveled at migrating cranes, swans, and geese.
In recent years, Dave devoted time to researching and writing social justice and progressive opinion pieces for local news organizations, reflecting his commitment to fairness and community. He was an easy man to love—strong, generous, and deeply devoted to his family.
Survived by his wife Cheryl, his children, grandchildren, great‑grandson, and siblings, Dave’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Weston, Wisconsin. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the enduring love and legacy he leaves behind.
