Susan “Sue” Elmira Bousley, Death – Beloved Resident of Wausau, Wisconsin; Passed Away on April 1

The family and friends of Susan “Sue” Elmira Bousley, 85, of Wausau, Wisconsin, are mourning the peaceful passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend on April 1, 2026, at Our House Senior Living in Wausau. Born on September 4, 1940, in Schofield to Benjamin and Mildred (Pratt) Rossenbach, Sue lived a life defined by kindness, devotion, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her passing leaves a deep sense of loss, but also immense gratitude for the many years she shared with those she loved.

Sue grew up in Schofield and graduated from Everest High School before beginning a long and meaningful career in healthcare. She worked as a CNA and Unit Clerk before joining Aspirus at the switchboard, where she dedicated more than 30 years of service.

Her organized nature, caring heart, and steady presence made her a trusted and beloved colleague. On June 18, 1960, she married Robert Bousley, the love of her life, in Schofield. Their marriage of 50 years was filled with love, laughter, and a deep partnership that carried them through life’s joys and challenges until Robert’s passing in 2010.

Family was at the center of Sue’s world. She cherished camping trips, especially days spent fishing on the lakes of Phillips and Boulder Junction. She was creative and talented, often crocheting and knitting prayer shawls, hats for cancer patients, and other handmade gifts that carried her warmth into the lives of others.

Sue enjoyed snowmobiling, relaxing around bonfires, and spending time with her cherished “Texas Moonlighters,” a close-knit group of friends and neighbors who brought joy and companionship into her life. In later years, she found comfort in puzzles and coloring, simple pleasures that reflected her calm and thoughtful nature.

Sue will be remembered as a woman of generosity, forgiveness, and unwavering kindness. Her warm soul and gentle presence made her a source of comfort to many. She created a home filled with love, laughter, and welcome—a place where family gathered, stories were shared, and memories were made. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she passed down, the love she poured into her family, and the countless lives she touched through her compassion and care.

Sue is survived by her children Michael (Elaine) Bousley, Tina (Kris) Graefe, and Timothy Bousley; grandsons Benjamin (Kaylee) Graefe and Tyler (Cheyanne) Graefe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Bousley; her brother Delbert (Helen) Rossenbach; and her sister Barbetta (Al) Passow.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Helke Funeral Home in Wausau, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the devoted staff at Our House Senior Living for the compassionate care they provided. Memorials may be directed to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church “Built in Love” building campaign or a charity of one’s choice.
